The Psalmist poses a serious question in Psalm 11:3: “When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?" It’s not enough to respond to a determined and violent enemy with glitzy but soft-punching projects that might dazzle but hardly dent his zeal. The answer is not by trying to prove that we too can live large and have a good time, that we can turn worship services into concerts, and preaching into mere motivational speeches. It is not by trying to prove to people who hate Christianity and what it stands for that we ourselves are not haters, when what they demand as proof is that we give up what we believe. I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman, and I am not afraid to say so to my “friends”, compatriots, or the president of the United States. It’s time to stand for what we believe.
