Tutoring Provides Personal Help:
She was starting her 5th year of school – this year repeating the third grade. Her CEZ tutor was helping her with her math homework – simple two digit subtraction – when he noticed she was trying to find the answer counting on her fingers. He asked, “Don’t you understand about subtracting one column at a time and how to borrow from the next column?” She looked at him blankly but as he helped her begin to understand this basic concept, it was as if a light turned on in her mind!
“Providing basic but personal support and concept exercises in math and reading is helping to keep the scores of elementary and middle school kids we serve in school and enable them to experience needed success so they can dream big dreams”, says CEZ Director Jeff Park. “It really is the personal attention that isn’t provided at school and making learning fun with games, competitions and creative additions like video and computer projects that make the children want to come back each week.
